With its unrivaled trail network, vibrant cycling community, and proximity to Vancouver’s famed softgoods culture, Squamish is the ideal place to create high performance bike apparel.
Out beyond Squamish, the province of British Columbia offers an ever-ready product proving ground — from hot arid desert interior, to soaking and cold temperate rainforest coast, to higher altitude skiing and mountaineering locations. If a product works, we soon know. And if it doesn’t, we’re in the right place to build and ride the next version.
Riding bikes reminds us of our responsibility as people, and as a company to take care of the planet, from the trails under our wheels to the air we breathe and the water we drink. A duty to go beyond words and work to make our products more hard-wearing, more repairable and made from materials that have a lower impact on the environment.
We’ve always believed that sustainability starts with baking in durability at the design phase. When you purchase a 7mesh product, our goal is for all areas of the garment, from the fabric to the trims, to wear evenly. And if something gives out after many seasons of use, it should be simple to repair, wherever you are in the world. The same goes for incidents along the way. If the fabric on your garment takes a hit, our global service centres are there to help.
We aim to create garments made with fewer virgin materials. Our goal is that 95% of 7mesh products contain a major proportion of recycled fabrics, by the end of 2024. But sustainability is a moving target, not just a stat on a chart. That’s why we’re continuing to audit our materials, future materials and company-wide supply chain so that we can do more with less in every area of our business.
Reducing our environmental footprint is something we strive for at 7mesh, starting by considering every choice we make in our design process and supply chain. We have lofty ambitions to reduce our footprint, but proof will come from action, so we’ve been quietly working towards these goals.
Last season as an interim step, we highlighted the progress we've made in adopting lower footprint materials throughout our line. This season we take another step forward with Airmap, meeting riders needs with mostly recycled materials, and no forever chemicals.
